They say ‘Home is where the heart is’, so when looking for your perfect home you want to feel that this home and environment makes you feel your best.
When choosing between rural, city, or living in the country, there are a number of reasons why someone would choose one over the other, however, there is still something about living in the country that the other two just can’t give you.
Proven Benefits Why Living in the Country is Better for You:
The further from the city you are, the more your air quality improves. Researchers suggest that this occurs due to less pollution, many more oxygen-producing trees and grass, as well as, more exposure to cell-improving phytochemicals that get released from plants, fungi, and microbes.
Pollution from urban and rural areas is caused from harmful particles being released into the air from the burning of fossil fuels like vehicles, airplanes, and factories that travel into the lungs and impair breathing. This can increase your risk of serious illness such as, asthma and heart disease, where one third of deaths from stroke, lung cancer and heart disease are due to air pollution.
Those living in the country versus the city or rural areas are statistically less likely to be involved in or be the victims of crime. Some of the more common crimes that happen being closer to the city are assault and robbery/theft.
Less people fortunately means less crime and living in the country decreases this risk. If you have children, pets, or just want to feel safer in your neighbourhood, living in the country is a safe bet!
Better Psychological and Physical Health
Living in more urban areas stimulates regions of the brain that affect emotion and anxiety, which can lead to anxiety, mood, and depression disorders. Scientists believe this is the reason they see higher rates of mental health problems in cities than non-urban areas. In the city your brain is constantly being stimulated, where research shows that city living increases your risk of developing schizophrenia.
Some mental health is recessive, so not always will living in the country prevent this, but statistically speaking the less stimulation and stress you have in your environment will positively affect your mental and physical health. Being in nature reduces anger, fear, blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones.
Cities can be very expensive to live in especially depending on which city you are looking at. Everything from land, housing, transportation, groceries, and insurance, will cost more in the city.

Being closer to nature means you are closer to wildlife, water, and plants; these could surely brighten anyone’s mood. Research shows that being in a more natural environment can improve short-term memory, lower your blood pressure, increase your focus, and may even have you tap more into your creative side.
